And that name is synesthesia! For many years, I've had this thing going on that I could see colours when I listened to music and the colours were always recurring. For example, Lucy by Anna Tsuchiya, which I was listening to moments go, is pink all the way and Merkebah's music is like the dawn... sort of yellowish but with some black in it too. And Nightwish's Ever Dream couldn't be more blue as The Kinslayer is red. Ok, you get the picture. Well yesterday I was reading Sepulchre by Kate Mosse and there was a referrence as people seeing colours in music as being called synesthesia. So I looked it up and this is totally me! Of course there are many types. Synesthesia is pretty rare... on websites is says one out of twenty. They have all sorts of causes for it and at first none applied to me, but then I read something about it being more common in left handed females. According to this site, we suck at math, have a poor sense of orientation and are good with poetry, music and all things creative. I was thinking about something else too, that might be a sign of synesthesia. I read on another sites that this occurs because the brain produces more neurons than the average person and certain areas of the brain tend to be mixed up, which makes us have multiple sensory experiences. Back in cegep, my friends might remember my obsession with colours and esthetic elements while doing team projects. it was not mere prefectionism. It was because I felt certain colours in certain words and themes and just a shade away was wrong... It all makes sense now...
So one of my oddities is explained yay! I also read that synesthesia might run in families, so I'll have to ask my mom if she ever had such experiences.
Anyone else ever had experiences like this??
